Until we have a better understanding of the features offered in conjunction with the selection of the diesel and 2.0-liter engines, the following trim breakdown applies solely to the 1.5-liter engine. The optional engines won't be offered until later in the model year. The 1.5-liter engine is the only engine available now. Also optional is a fuel-efficient 1.6-liter diesel (137 hp, 240 lb-ft) mated to a six-speed automatic. A more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine (252 hp, 260 lb-ft) is optional and comes standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The standard engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder (170 horsepower, 203 pound-feet of torque) matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Three engines are offered on the Equinox. Notably, we picked the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox as one of Edmunds' Best Small SUVs for 2018. If you can look past its small cargo area, you'll be rewarded with a comfortable ride, roomy cabin and one of the best touchscreen systems in the business. The Equinox is not the most exciting compact crossover to drive, but it is one of the best all-rounders in the class. Tech features are also abundant, with every Equinox boasting a touchscreen display and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The Equinox features plenty of advanced safety equipment, from standard items such as a rearview camera and Chevy's Teen Driver reporting feature to a top-down parking camera system and lane departure warning and intervention. You'll appreciate the extra space because the 29.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats is smaller than most in this class. There's plenty of legroom for tall passengers in all outboard seats - though the panoramic sunroof reduces headroom for those in the rear - and the back seats fold flat at the pull of a lever to increase the size of the cargo area to 63.5 cubic feet. The downsizing has barely impacted the Equinox's spacious interior. Even if you don't go for the diesel option, the standard engines all deliver improved fuel economy figures compared to the previous Equinox. Chevy says the most economical of these, an optional 1.6-liter diesel engine, will achieve an impressive 40 mpg on the highway. The display of direction and comprehensive vehicle stats such as tire pressure and oil status are useful for proper maintenance. The new Equinox is smaller and lighter than the vehicle it replaces, and it's powered exclusively by turbocharged four-cylinder engines with standard engine stop-start technology. The move ability of the rear seat adds increased or decreased storage area as needed and with 3/4 to 1/4 rear seat, they can all or individually be placed down for additional storage. The rear center seat has a lap and shoulder seat belt which is much safer than a sole lap strap. The adjustable front and rear headrests add comfort. The multiple airbags ensure increased safety. The roof rack at the top is useful for additional storage using cargo straps. The sunroof is a fun addition for cooler days and nights. The electronic drivers seat movement is variable with not only forward and backward, but tilt, lift and lumbar support. The rear window wiper is useful in muddy / rainy conditions and ensures added safety. The standard tinted windows are great for reducing heat in the summer. The warranty is very good and covers bumper to bumper. The backup camera is very clear for safety purposes. When doors are closed there is a solid feel. There are no rattles, shakes or shimmies. Large enough make me feel safe, hold whatever I need, and small enough to park with ease. I feel safe in this car, one accident with a deer, and one on icy roads (other driver's fault) and no injuries. Safety and entertainment!!! We have put 120, 000 miles on this car. Cruise and radio controls are within easy reach, and comes equipped with blue tooth and on star. Great mileage, car is easy to handle and has speed pick up on the road. Very large storage in back, and very easy to enlarge with fold down seats. Back the same pull down beverage holders, water in door. Next was room for coffee and beverages, wow two between seats, more space in both front doors for water. My first must have was excellent leg room, front and back. At first viewing and test driving of this vehicle had to force myself to at least at other options. Before purchasing our new car, I had a list of must have, and nice to have.
